A.R.T.
Art & Reading Time is an innovative classroom program which allows for free expression and investigation into the visual arts by way of literary inspiration. What A.R.T. offers participants is an outlet, an experience, and an opportunity to create deeper connections with their academic, social-emotional, and personal growth and learning. Students in A.R.T. class experience the general academic benefits associated with literature, including reading comprehension and response strategies, and hands-on creative processes, while addressing a variety of character education and environmental education topics.
WHY A.R.T.?
- Learning about and caring for our environment, each other, and ourselves are some of the fundamental basic skills when aiming to create conscientious, mindful citizens of tomorrow's world. Commanding a creative and innovative thought process will be an invaluable asset to our future generations.
- Exposure to a range of different experiences, feelings, and worldview through literature has been shown to foster empathy, inquisitiveness, and understanding in children. Literary sources inspire thoughts of a world outside of one's own, hold valuable life-lessons, and promote an inquiring approach to new topics and ideas.
- Artistic expression provides a positive avenue for exploring these new-found perceptions and curiosities, deepening their comprehension and encouraging students to communicate their awareness of both self and the greater world in imaginative and personally meaningful ways.
